Hand-line Fishing

Hand-line fishing is the most common method of fishing in the islands. A small hand-held reel with a 30lb line is used for fish up to 5 lbs. Coral trout, Trevally, Barracuda, and Coral reef snapper are the most commonly caught fish with hand lines. On the resort's behalf, the custodians of the traditional fishing rights for the seas surrounding Matangi Island have imposed protection of all marine life within 300 metres of the island's foreshore. Fishing is not permitted inside this zone.
