Kava & Talanoa Session

We offer a Kava and Talanoa session once a week. Kava, also known in Fijian as yaqona, is an infusion prepared from the root of Piper methysticum, a variety of pepper plant that offers a mild sedating effect when consumed.

Handicraft Show

Traditional Fijian bark cloth (tapa) and hand-woven pandanus mats are crucial in Fijian society. No traditional Fijian ceremony takes place without them.

Once a week, our activities crew hosts a fun Coconut Show where they share their skills in husking and scraping fresh coconut for its milk, a key ingredient in Fijian cuisine, and weaving baskets and hats.

Meke – Traditional Fijian Dance

Togo villagers from neighbouring Qamea Island perform a meke, once a week during our island night.

Medicine Talk

Traditional Fijian bush medicine is still a part of Fijian life today and is widely practised in the homes of many Fijian families.

Hand-line Fishing

Hand-line fishing is the most common method of fishing in the islands. A small hand-held reel with a 30lb line is used for fish up to 5 lbs. Coral trout, Trevally, Barracuda, and Coral reef snapper are the most commonly caught fish with hand lines.

Sunday Church Service – Qamea Island

The Christian religion was established in Fiji in 1838. Along with the Fijian chiefly system, the Church forms a key part of Fiji’s social structure. Fijian church services are renowned for their harmonious song.

Light Tackle Sport Fishing Charter

Owing to the topography of the seabed off Matangi and neighbouring islands, remarkable fighting fish like Giant trevally, Yellowfin, Dogtooth, Skipjack and Wahoo are plentiful.

What do our guests say?

I don't generally leave reviews but felt compelled to do so in this case. Matangi is simply a paradise. Probably the best place I have ever stayed in the world. The staff are fantastic, the setting is divine, the food is delicious, the cocktails are perfect, the many experiences are all top drawer. Overall I don't have enough superlatives for it and very much hope to return even though I live on the other side of the world. - brayjames - Tripadvisor

Absolutely an amazing place. From the moment you step off the boat, you are greeted by Sisi and the rest of the staff. Being a small private resort, they focus on remembering your name and making you feel right at home. My wife and another couple stayed 1wk here and had one of the best trips ever. Fully recommend if your looking for a quiet romantic trip with awesome service. Will be back! - Tripadvisor User

Everything about our visit was special. We expected to be treated like family by the wonderful Fijians because of our previous trips there. But they seemed even a bit more friendly and personable if that's possible. What we appreciated most was the smallness of the resort, which meant a lot of lone time, uncrowded excursions (especially the free twice-daily snorkelling trips) , and getting to know the other travellers. We also thought that their food was the best that we've ever had at a resort. The Fijians will leave a lasting impression on us. - Steve M

Totally worth the travel! The staff is very attentive, the beds are clean and comfortable with turn down service, and the food is great . Lots of activities with snorkeling, shows, trips to villages, etc. Great honeymoon destination. Very much recommend it and want to go back one day. - Ethan & Anne

Wonderful, private small resort with very personalized service. The staff is serene, welcoming and inspires a familial atmosphere. Enjoyed the personalized help in scuba diving and snorkelling. Our guide even had an underwater white board to point out the sea life we were seeing. The meals & cocktails were delicious. Best of all may have been having laundry done! And No cars on the island. - Jean J
