In addition to our complimentary activities, we offer a range of paid activities. As all of our activities are centred on exploring our island and its beautiful surroundings, they are weather-dependent and cannot be booked in advance of arrival. All prices are in Fiji Dollars and include the Fiji government tax. Prices are subject to change without notice.

Q: What is the resort’s power supply?
A: Our electricity supply is 240-volt AC 50 Hertz. If your device has dual 110-220 voltage, it will work with an adapter, which you must bring. Our power sockets are three-pronged, the same as those in Australia and New Zealand.
Q: Do I need to book any activities before my arrival?
A: Except for scuba diving and the Horseshoe Bay picnic, which can be booked before your arrival, all other activities and day tours can only be booked here at the resort. If you wish to book a picnic in Horseshoe Bay on a particular day to celebrate a special occasion, please email us your date so we can reserve it. If you are a certified scuba diver and wish to prepay diving, please email us for information and pricing on our prepaid dive packages.
Q: What is the resort’s dress code?
A: Casual, comfortable clothing, including t-shirts, shorts and sarongs, are accepted in the dining room. As it is considered good manners in Fiji to leave your shoes outside, footwear in the dining room is optional. If you are visiting a Fijian village, we ask that you dress appropriately, as showing too much skin is a sign of disrespect.
Q: Do I need to book spa treatments before my arrival?
A: Spa treatments do not need to be booked before your arrival. You will receive a complimentary foot ritual, which we recommend you do within the first two days of your arrival, as this will allow you to meet with our spa therapists and discuss what treatments you wish to have during your stay.
Q: Is internet access available?
A: Wi-Fi internet connectivity is available, but only in our dining room. If you wish to have Wi-Fi in your bure or treehouse, we recommend you visit the Digicel store at Nadi International Airport and purchase a data SIM card. NB: For the data SIM card to work, you must ensure your mobile phone is not SIM-locked. Your mobile phone provider will be able to give you this information.
Q: Will I need some Fiji Dollars?
A: Some of our activities and tours, including Lavena Coastal Walk, Tavoro Waterfalls, and Togo Village, require entrance fees paid in Fiji Dollars only. You will also need some Fiji Dollars if you do the Taveuni Island Day Tour and visit the local shops or purchase Fijian handicrafts from the women’s group of Togo Village, who visit us weekly to demonstrate how Fijian handicrafts are made. NB: All transactions at the resort, including spa treatments, activities (minus the entrance fees mentioned above), and beverage and boutique purchases, are charged back to your room for payment upon your departure. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. NB: Merchant fees apply; Visa and Mastercard 3.5%, American Express 3.6%. Cash, either Fiji Dollars or foreign currency equivalent, is accepted.
Q: Can I exchange foreign currency at the resort?
A: You can exchange foreign currency for Fijian currency here at the resort. Foreign currency can also be exchanged at the Nadi International Airport in the arrivals concourse.
Q: Are there ATM facilities at the resort?
A: There are no ATM facilities here on Matangi Island.
Q: Is there a laundry service?
A: Laundry service (wash, fold and iron only) is provided free of charge. Dry cleaning services are not available.
Q: Is the resort smoke-free?
A: Our accommodations and common areas are smoke-free zones.
Q: Is there a safe in the room?
A: Yes.
Q: Can I buy sunscreen at the resort?
A: Sunscreen is available in our gift shop, but the selection is limited. If you like to use a particular brand, we recommend you bring it with you. Most of our guests leave their unused sunscreen behind at the bar for other guests to use.
Q: Do I need to bring snorkelling gear?
A: Masks, snorkels and fins (closed heel only) are provided free of charge. NB: If you prefer the full-face snorkel mask, you must bring your own, as these are unavailable at Matangi. If you like to wear a rash top or full-body suit while snorkelling, you will also need to bring one with you. NB: Water temperatures can be cool during our winter months.
Q: Do I need travel insurance?
A: Travel insurance is not a mandatory requirement for entry into Fiji; however, as you will need to make several flight connections, it is a good idea to have travel insurance just in case there is an interruption in your trip, resulting in you missing some of your flight connections. Additionally, as the medical services in Fiji are poor, medical insurance, including emergency evacuation, is recommended. If you are a scuba diver, you should have appropriate cover with either PADI or DAN. Matangi Island Resort strongly recommends appropriate insurance.
Q: Does the resort cater to special dietary needs?
A: We are happy to accommodate special dietary needs, excluding Kosha. Advance notice is required, as it allows us to prepare before your arrival. As a precautionary measure, if you suffer from severe allergies, we strongly recommend that you bring the appropriate medication with you.
Q: What should I pack for my stay?
A: Pack cool and comfortable clothing and footwear, hat, sunscreen, and any medication you may require for your stay. If you visit us during our cooler winter months of July - September we recommend you bring a couple of pieces of long-sleeved lightweight clothing. If you like the outdoors and want to go on hikes, visit the Tavoro Waterfalls or do the Lavena Coastal Walk, we recommend you bring shoes with good traction as the trails are natural, uneven, and sometimes slippery, especially during or after rain. A light rain jacket is also good to bring. Be sure to check the luggage weight restrictions with Fiji Airways at www.fijiairways.com
Q: Is there cellphone service on the island?
A: Digicel and Vodafone networks are available; however, as there is a Digicel tower on Matangi island, the Digicel network has better coverage over Vodafone, which is patchy and primarily available only on the resort’s beach-frontage.
Q: What can I bring the School Children?
A: All educational materials are greatly appreciated; however, it can be challenging to bring items due to the weight restrictions of the airlines that you will travel on to get here. Small, lightweight items, including pens, pencils, and erasers, are always a good option. If you wish to donate to the village school fund financially, you can do so at our office. Monetary donations from guests have assisted with purchasing desks, chairs, books, computers and other educational materials and equipment for the school.
Q: Are there mosquitoes?
A: Yes, but very few. Although there is no stagnant water on Matangi Island for mosquitoes to breed in large numbers, we have some mosquitos. Aerogard mosquito repellant spray is provided in your bure and treehouse should you need it.
Q: What is the resort’s policy on tipping?
A: Like most resorts in Fiji, we encourage our guests who wish to tip staff for their excellent service to donate to our Staff Gratuity Fund. Distributed quarterly to all staff members, this is the fairest way to ensure that all the 100+ staff members who have worked tirelessly to make your stay memorable receive their fair share of your tip. If you wish to contribute to our Staff Gratuity Fund, you can do so at the office on your departure. We accept cash (Fiji Dollars or foreign currency), Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
Q: Is there a mini bar in the room?
A: All of our accommodations have a mini-bar refrigerator. Soft drinks, bottled water, beer, wine, and snacks (peanuts and Pringles), can be purchased from our Mini Bar Request List.
Q: Is there a hairdryer in the room?
A: Yes.
Q: Does the resort provide curling irons?
A: No.
Q: Can I get distilled water for my sleep apnea machine?
A: Yes. Please email us in advance so that we can prepare for your arrival.
Q: What bath amenities are in the rooms?
A: Our bath amenities (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, bath soap) are from the Pure Fiji range.

Water: Drinking water is provided in glass bottles and replenished daily. The tap water is perfectly safe for brushing your teeth and showering. It comes from a clean mountain spring on Qamea Island and is piped across the channel into storage tanks on Matangi.
Electricity: Our power supply is 240-volt AC 50 hertz. Please ensure your devices are compatible before plugging them in. Plug adapters are available for loan from the front office.
Air conditioning: Your four-poster bed canopy is equipped with a modern, low-power air conditioning unit, allowing for a cool and comfortable sleep. Your housekeeper will prepare the mosquito net canopy during her turndown service. We would appreciate it if you could please keep the air conditioner turned off when not in use.
Mini Bar: To enhance your stay, a Mini Bar Request List will be provided to you at your check-in registration. Your housekeeper will be delighted to assist you with your mini-bar requests. Please note that charges apply to this service.
Safety Deposit Box: We encourage you to store your valuables in the safety deposit box provided in your bure. Matangi accepts no responsibility for items that may be misplaced or lost.
Room Service: Room service is available during regular meal times. Daily menu choices apply. Please let the dining staff know if you feel unwell and require room service. They would be happy to have the chefs prepare something special for you.
Laundry: Complimentary laundry service is available at no charge. Matangi does not accept responsibility for damaged or lost laundry with this free service.
Bathrobe: A bathrobe is provided for you during your stay and is recommended for your spa appointments.
Flashlight: A flashlight is provided to help you navigate the toads, crab holes, and roots that regularly appear on our natural pathways at night.
Towels: Fresh bath towels, including beach towels, are provided daily. Beach towels are also provided poolside and for all activities, including snorkelling, scuba diving, and tours.
Our cuisine is influenced by the availability of freshly grown produce and locally sourced fish and seafood. Our team of local chefs makes every effort to use the freshest ingredients with a touch of Fijian flavour in our dishes.
Breakfast is a buffet of cereals, fresh tropical fruit, fruit juices, coffee and tea, and freshly baked treats. Hot breakfast choices are also available on our Hot Breakfast Menu. Lunch consists of a light salad followed by a main of your choice and a light dessert. Dinner includes a selection of a starter, main and dessert. To allow ample time for our chefs to prepare your meals, the day’s menu will be made available after the breakfast service. Special dietary needs can be catered for. Advance notice is appreciated.

All-day snacks: Coffee, tea, and freshly baked treats are available in the dining room at all times. If you prefer something savoury, please ask a member of the dining team to arrange this for you.
Dress code: Casual, comfortable clothing is most appropriate for our tropical climate. As it is Fijian custom that shoes are not worn inside, shoes are optional in our dining room.
Beverages: Our tariff excludes all non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. Bar purchases will be added to your room tab, as cash is not accepted at the bar. Beverages not purchased at our bar are not permitted in the dining room, including the bar, lounge, and pool areas.
