Light tackle sport fishing

Due to the seabed's topography off Matangi and neighbouring islands, remarkable fighting fish such as Giant trevally, Yellowfin, Dogtooth, Skipjack, and Wahoo are plentiful.

Light-tackle sport fishing is available at an hourly rate of FJD$300, including Fiji government tax. Ideal fishing times are early mornings and late afternoons.

Deep-sea game fishing is not available at Matangi. Saltwater fly-fishing is available, but anglers must bring their own gear. The reef surrounding Matangi Island, extending approximately 1000 feet from the high-water mark out to sea, is protected as a marine area. Fishing is prohibited within this zone.
