Fiji Honeymoon and Dive resort - Matangi Island
At Matangi Island, our Activities & Dive Centre is situated at the Resort's main beach frontage. For your pleasure and enjoyment, we offer a variety of activities.
Snorkelling:
We offer many snorkelling sites within the vicinity of Matangi Island. Mask, snorkel and fins are available for your use free of charge. For information on our daily snorkelling excursions, please enquire with our activities crew. Note: If you are snorkelling anywhere off Matangi Island's beaches where boat traffic is expected, please take care. For your safety, we recommend that you always snorkel with a buddy.
Spear fishing and collecting live shells and corals is not permitted. We ask that you help us to preserve the pristine reefs in this area by taking the necessary care to avoid damage to the live corals.
Scuba diving:
Scuba diving is arranged daily from our Activities & Dive Centre. Divers are required to produce a dive certification card prior to diving with us. Our dive boat departs Matangi Island daily around 8:30 am and returns to the island for lunch. To ensure the best dive experience, dive sites are selected according to daily tidal movements and prevailing weather conditions. Matangi Private Island Resort is proud to be a member of the PADI International Resort Association.
Our daily 2-tank dive rate is USD130 per diver. A prepaid 5 day/10 tank package is also available for USD615 per diver. Divers prepaying a minimum of 3 days of diving have access to unlimited shore diving free of charge. Gear hire is available. For charges, please enquire with our dive crew.
Day trips to dive sites in the more remote Somo Somo Strait is possible with a minimum of six divers, weather permitting. A fuel surcharge of USDD85 per diver applies. Third tank dive included at no extra charge.
Scuba certification:
PADI scuba certification can be arranged however advance notice is required to have an Instructor available at the Resort. For more information, please enquire with our dive crew.
Village tour:
Visit a Fijian village on the neighbouring island and catch a glimpse of Fijian village life. Tours are offered once a week, weather and tidal access permitting. A small contribution from guests is required for the customary presentation of kava to the village chief.
Tavoro Waterfall tour:
Visit the spectacular Tavoro Waterfalls in Taveuni Island's 15,000 hectare Bouma National Heritage Park. Established in 1990 to protect much of Taveuni Island's virgin rainforest, the Park also helps generate an income for the four villages whose land is bound by it. Visits to the Park are weather permitting and incur round-trip boat and car transfer charges; minimum 4 people FJD115 per person; minimum 6 people FJD75 per person. In addition, a park entrance fee of FJD12 per person is payable at the Park Ranger's office.
Island tour:
Once a week we offer a complimentary motored excursion around Matangi Island. This leisure cruise offers you the opportunity to view Matangi's beautiful coastline up-close.
Picnics:
A private picnic can we arranged in our Horseshoe Bay, listed in "1000 Places To See Before You Die" by Patricia Schultz. A fee of FJD$150 + tax applies.
Water skiing:
Water skiing is available at a charge. For more information, please see our activities crew.
Beach-Cats:
Two Calypso beach-cats are available for your use free of charge.
Kayaks:
Single and double kayaks are available for your use free of charge. Kayaking provides a great way to explore Matangi Island's beautiful coastline up-close. A good tip is to avoid kayaking near the reef's edge where steep waves form and can overturn a kayak; and also in the shallow coral areas where sharp corals can puncture a kayak's hull. In the unlikely event you get coral cuts, please see our activities staff for basic First Aid assistance.
Fishing:
Both hand-line fishing and light tackle sport fishing is available at Matangi Island. Year round we catch a variety of fish including Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Walu, Barracuda, Giant Trevally, Tuna and Scad Mackerel. For information on fishing charter rates, please see our activities crew.
Deep-sea game fishing is not available at Matangi Private Island Resort. Saltwater fly-fishing from our beach-frontage is possible, however you must supply your own gear.
Bush hiking:
Our coastal and ridge-top hiking trails provide some of the finest scenery in the surrounds of our lush tropical rainforest. Our trails are all natural, so please take care on the narrow parts of the island's ridge-top. There are no harmful bugs or spiders but there are hornets, wasps, bees and bully ants that can be easily avoid by not disturbing their nests. Matangi Island is also home to some cows, bulls, horses and pigs, which you may see during your hike.
Multimedia facilities:
Our air conditioned multimedia entertainment room at The Deck offers a 48 inch LCD screen with DVD (PAL) and surround sound. DVDs are available for loan (free of charge) from our office.
Lavena Coastal Walk:
Situated on the coastal boundary of the Bouma National Heritage Park, this walk offers you an opportunity to experience a mixture of remote beaches, virgin tropical rainforest and traditional gardens. The walk, which takes three to four hours (round-trip), is a wonderful trek for the outdoor adventurer. For a minimum of 4 people, a round-trip boat and car transfer charge of FJD130 per person applies. For a minimum of 6 people, a round-trip boat and car transfer charge of FJD90 per person applies. In addition, a park entrance fee is payable at the Park Ranger's office.
Peckham Pearl Farm tour:
Visit Taveuni Island's only saltwater black pearl farm in the Naselesele Lagoon. Tours are available Monday - Friday from 10:00 am. This two hour tour takes you around the pearl farm in an open outboard powered skiff. Snorkelling is also offered in the lagoon and coral reserve where the black pearls are grown. Loose black pearls as well as black pearl jewellery can also be purchased from the farm. A transfer charge of FJD115 per person applies with a minimum of 4 people or FJD75 per person with a minimum of 6 people or more. There is also a FJD25 per person entrance fee payable to the farm.
Waitabu Marine Park:
Visit the Waitabu Marine Park on Taveuni Island's rain forested Eastern Coast where the people of Waitabu Village offer visitors two tours. One tour takes you on an open outboard powered skiff for a 2-hour snorkelling excursion. The other tour takes you to snorkelling sites on a Bilibili or traditional Fijian bamboo raft. Visitors to the Park and weather and tide permitting and incur round-trip boat and car transfer charges; minimum 4 people FJD115 per person; minimum 6 people FJD75 per person. In addition, an entrance fee is payable at the Park Ranger's office.
Note: All charges, except for entrance fees for the various tours on Taveuni Island, can be added to your Bure account for settlement at your check-out. All prices above exclude Fiji Government Taxes 17.5%. Foreign currency can be exchanged at our Office.
